John Theobald and Elizabeth Dore (Parents of William Theobald)

John Theobald, son of Richard Theobald and Martha Spillet was born in 1775 in Feversham, Kent, England.  He was christened October 8, 1775 in Sheldwick, Kent, England.   John Theobald married Elizabeth Dore July 13, 1803 in Islington, Middlesex, London, England.  Elizabeth Dore, daughter of John Dore and Mary Baldwin, was born about 1776 in Isle of Wight, Hampshire, England.

Together, John and Elizabeth had ten children named son, Christian, John Baldwin, Caroline, Mary, William, George, Charles, Thomas and Anna.

Elizabeth (Dore) Theobald died December 31, 1825 in Isle of Wight, Hampshire, England, at the age of 44 years.

John Theobald married Sarah Trott on Oct 17, 1826 in Isle of Wight, Hampshire, England.

John Theobald died in January 3, 1859 in Isle of Wight, Hampshire, England, at the age of 83 years.

Except for William and his family, all the Theobald and Dore families are buried in the All Saints Cemetery at Freshwater, Isle of Wight, Hampshire, England.  Almost all of the headstones are under a large juniper tree which has protected them from the weather.

The Theobald/Dore family home called "Blackbridge House" is at the corner of Blackbridge and Easton Street at Freshwater, Isle of Wight, Hampshire, England.  It is a large manor house that was built partly in the 14th century and partly in about 1540. It has a thatched roof and is very beautiful. At one time the estate also included 80 acres of land.  However, only the large garden and barn accompanies the house on that lot today.

  1. My ancestral grandfather was John Baldwin, William's brother, he died at Castle Point in New Zealand on the 14th April 1869. He moved there sometime after 1861, I assume when his wife Ann died, and his children were all grown up. I found in a book later that the sheep station he went to was owned by a former resident of Freshwater on the IOW, so I'm assuming they may have been friends. Love this blog. You are so lucky that William wrote a biography. Great story.
