Richard Price and Maria Watts (Parents of Simon Price)

Richard Price, son of Robert Price and Martha Phillpot, was born about 1776. Richard Price married Maria J Watts prior to 1801 at Marlow Parish in Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire, England.  Maria J Watts, daughter of Thomas Watts and Mary Bozier, was born April 2, 1771 in Newbury, Berkshire, England.  She was christened April 21, 1771 in Sparsholt, Berkshire, England.

Together, they had five children, Martha, Robert, Maria, Simon and Richard.  Of these five only Martha, Maria and Simon survived childhood.

Richard was one of three Welsh brothers who came from a moneyed Welsh family by the name of Phryce in South Wales.  Upon the death of their father, each of the three brothers inherited 3,000 pounds.  Richard and his older brother, Robert, settled in Windsor, Buckinghamshire, England.   Richard bought an inn, became an innkeeper and later built a brewery at Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire, England.  Robert became the preceptor in St. George’s Chapel

In 1803, Richard joined the local militia society which would find a substitute for him should he be selected to serve in the militia.  Later that year, Richard also cashed in a Savings Bond.

  1. Thanks so much for posting this Erynn! I am the great-great granddaughter of Robert Price and Matilda Kelsey. I never heard the information about them coming from "moneyed Welsh family by the name of Phryce" before. Where did you find this info?
